Unfulfilled Juri

I see a theme coming on? Maaaybe not...not sure if I want to draw Touga or Saionji, they suck. :( (Saionji considerably less than Touga though)
I've decided from now on to become a better drafter. If the draft is mostly right, then you won't run into problems further on. I always told myself (especially when working on the computer) that I'll just fix things in the ink stage so it doesn't matter if my sketches are loose, but the fact is that they need to be tighter because you can't actually "fix" things easily when you're inking. And what would happen is it would get difficult and I'd get frustrated and just settle for something that I thought was "okay", which not only is wrong, it's frankly lazy. So yeah, putting more work into my drafts.

See what I mean? I never did that before because I was dumb.

...I've always though that really tight preliminary sketches/drafts were a disadvantage...in a way. It can get to the point where, during the inking stage, the drawing becomes too close to tracing and the final product lacks the liveliness, flow and organic quality of freshly drawn lines.
I dunno, it works for some people though. :0

Date: 2008-06-05 04:06 am (UTC)One thing that bothers me about my digital work is how stiff it tends to become, which is why I want to transition properly into traditional stuff...but at the moment digital is quicker, so I think I'm just going to find a way to make things look more alive on the computer. D: Oh well, I'm all about challenges~
