Close or not, we're a community. We call each other friends, and that's good enough for me ^_^

I know you've been to Japan, and worked there, and that makes you very special in my book. I spent some time working in Gotanda in southern Tokyo - my apartment was in Shinagawa - and it utterly transformed my life. At the very least, having been through Shinagawa rush hour I will never, ever, EVER feel like I'm waiting in a line ever again in my life.

And cubes! After months sitting at a long table in a long room in the Tokyo Design Center with everyone else in the office sitting at the same table all day, and the tanto manija sitting at the head of the table with the Vice President just behind him watching everyone all day long, I will never ever again complain about a small cube in America. Mmmmm ... Cubes!

Hmm...that's a good question! I think being in Japan permanently affected the way I view traveling domestically.

I didn't realize it until I was there, but prior to being in Japan I more or less believed that if you didn't have a car there was just no fathomable way that you could go to other places, even within your own state! Now, I realize that this differs between people who live in different states, but that's practically the case in Ohio. And without the option to move around freely, I never really developed the will to. But in Japan...you can just hop on the train and hours later be in a completely different region of the country (and if you have time, you can just take the bus). That sort of freedom is something I can never forget, even in America where it is so much more difficult to move if you don't have your own form of personal transportation.

I guess I feel a bit more claustrophobic in America now, which is hilarious considering how much bigger it is than Japan! But I really do want to visit more places in the US. I want to move around more, way more than I did two years ago.
